DSLR adalah kata ringkas kepada Digital Single Lens Reflex. Ia adalah sebuah kamera  gambar digital yang menggunakan kanta refleks tunggal (SLR) mekanisme. Kebanyakan kamera profesional menggunakan kamera refleks lensa tunggal, walaupun analog. Digital SLR mulai muncul di awal 1990an, tetapi menjadi sangat popular setelah setelah seabad berlalu.

Nikon memulakan projek DSLR seawal tahun 1991 bersama NASA. Hanya pada 1999, Nikon mengeluarkan kamera DSLR pertamanya yang diberi nama Nikon D1 SLR. Sehingga kini, pelbagai model DSLR telah dikeluarkan dengan fungsi dan kegunaan yang pelbagai.

Produk terbaru Nikon adalah Kamera Nikon DSLR D5100 yang mula dipasarkan pada 5 April 2011. Nikon DSLR D5100 kini menjadi rebutan peminat gadjet DSLR termasuk saya sendiri. Bermula dengan kamera kompak, standard digital, camcoder, DSLR kini berada dalam senarai utama saya untuk memilikinya.

Berdasarkan maklumat spesifikasi, model D5100 adalah lebih baik dari model D5000 dalam banyak aspek. Dengan tambahan beberapa keupayaan seperti penyambungan External Microphone Jack dan fokus berterusan semasa merakam video membuatkan gadjet ini lebih menarik. Pergerakan hasil rakaman adalah lebih baik kerana ia menggunakan 30fps berbanding kebanyakkan model lain 24fps. Ia juga dipakejkan dengan keupayaan HD serta keupayaan kuasa bateri yang lebih lama.

Resolution skrin paparannya lebih tajam (920k dots) dengan keupayan flips out dan putaran skrin yang flexible membuahkan kamera ini serbaguna sama ada utk kegunaan luar dan dalaman.

Secara keseluruhannya Nikon DSLR D5100 adalah sangat sesuai untuk beginner dan amatur. Namun ada juga profesional yang sukakan D5100 ini sebagai kamera utama mereka.
